Sharina Perry | Founder/Inventor of Utopia Plastix, USA

Sharina’s current professional corporate roles revolve around her utopia Model owned and operated companies.
All formed to strategically launch her vision for creating and developing sustainable solutions across global platforms.
These include CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Utopia Genetics, LLC; CEO Eden Grow, LLC, Managing Partner Utopia Solutions, LLC; and Managing Partner Utopia Wellness, LLC.

Sharina is the Founder/Inventor of Utopia Plastix, a patented plastic alternative formulated into compounded plant- based resins using agricultural crops. Sharina is also the creator and developer of the Utopia Model, a sustainable eco-system business model. Utopia's compounded plant resin allows manufacturers to use their current equipment as they produce the sustainable, alternative plastic products that the world is demanding.
Sharina is known as an out of the box thinker and innovator. She has challenged herself to shatter glass ceilings and continues to excel in every endeavor she takes on.
Sharina Perry is a serial entrepreneur with a long history of starting and growing new ventures.
At the age of 24, as the Director of Operations Sharina fast tracked her company to becoming the largest retailer of satellite systems in the nation. Three years later, Sharina started her own company with a 30k investment. It was repaid in 2 months and her company ended the year with gross revenue of over 2.5 million. She went on to become the only African American female owned company in the industry and was in the Top 5 MDU/FTG providers and a Top 10 Public/Private provider. She launched her business into large corporate and government contracting as a prime contractor. Sharina was the first to introduce the concept of suite type services (cable, internet, phone, etc) to the largest MDU property management company in the state of California.
Sharina holds a considerable number of certifications in business structure, strategy, and development.
Sharina believes a hands-on approach and leading by example makes for the most effective leaders.

Utopia Plastix was recently featured on Advancements TV on Bloomerberg TV hosted by Ted Danson as a solution to plastic waste.
Sharina was featured in the April/May 2022 issue of Womans Day Magazine as an Eco-Hero.

Maria Vera-Duran | Project Officer at European Recycling Industries' Confederation (EuRIC), Belgium

Maria Vera-Duran holds a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from the
University of Malaga (Spain). She has been working as a project coordinator at the International
Relations Office of the University of Malaga for almost 5 years, where she contributed to projects
on managerial excellence and internationalization strategy. At EuRIC, she assists EU-funded
projects, including project coordination and implementation of tasks, external communications
and drafting of reports related to H2020.
In CIMPA project, aiming at improving the sorting, separation, and recycling of multi-layer materials,
she coordinates communication, dissemination activities together with legislative and pre-normative
studies related to plastic packaging products and multilayers films.

Jori Ringman |Director General of Cepi - the European forest fibre and paper industry

Before his appointment in February 2005 in the role of General Director of CEPI, Jori was a civil servant in the European Commission. Has also worked in the European Parliament Environment Committee as a political advisor, as Secretary General of a parliamentary group in the Finnish National Parliament, as chief editor of a newspaper, and as manager of various NGOs.

Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI), February 2005 - present Director General (June 2019)
− Responsibilities cover many key areas of the European forest-based industries: raw material availability and quality, value chains, product and food safety, environment and sustainability, as well as related research and communications.
− Acting Director General for six months in 2016; Deputy Director General 2016-2019
− Developing a positive business environment for the sector by instigating and analyzing policy initiatives and taking proactive voluntary action including the value chain.
− Involvement in the transformation of the forest-based sector towards the circular economy and low-carbon bio-economy.
− Successfully built consensus within the sector and across industries on controversial and complex issues as well as within the NGO community.

TOPIC: Paper Recycling is Booming—What’s Causing Paper Shortages?

Desika Prabakar | Sustainability Consultant | Shree Renga Polymer, India

Desika Prabakar is a techno-commercial expert in the environmental sustainability domain. She has built and transferred technologies such as enzymatic additives to degrade petrochemical plastics, low-cost bioplastics for packaging, eco-friendly sanitary napkins from industrial wastes, agricultural and food industry wastes converted into value-added applications such as biomembranes for wastewater treatment, under the prestigious banners of IIT Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and National University of Singapore. Having graduated with an Industrial Biotechnology degree she went on to identify a passion for environmental upliftment, influenced by her business background. Coming from a family who's been in plastic recycling for over a decade she supports recycling on an industrial level from converting PET bottles to T-shirts, discarded fishing nets into automobile parts, etc. Her groundwork extends to upcycling both post-industrial and post-consumer wastes. Apart from industrial contributions with over 900+ citations on her environmental publications in top peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Environmental Management and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, she continually indulges in sustainable research. Desika now works with brands as a Sustainability Consultant in executing practical and impactful measures to meet their sustainability goals in terms of Upcycling of wastes, ESG reporting, Zero-waste to landfill systems, and Carbon-negative technologies.
